Information on the Maltese energy market
Malta's climate targets are set out in the “National Energy and Climate Plan Malta” (NECP). The targets include, firstly, an 11.5% share of renewable energies in gross final energy consumption by 2030 and, secondly, a 14% share in the transportation sector. In particular, renewable energy sources such as photovoltaics (PV), water heaters and heat pumps as well as energy storage solutions are to be promoted in order to increase energy security. These technologies play a key role for the future in Malta. The expert interviews conducted by AHK Italy confirm that there is currently a demand for high-quality products and services from German providers in these areas. The label “Made in Germany” also continues to be positively associated with attributes such as reliability, durability and engineering skills.
German companies wishing to enter the Maltese market should develop a market entry strategy and find out about local conditions. By supporting companies and households, the Maltese government has managed to limit the economic damage caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Malta's economy is expected to recover significantly in the coming months. This target market analysis on the topic of “Renewable energy supply systems including storage in Malta” provides an initial overview of the target market and provides initial points of contact for obtaining information and profiles of the market players.
