Information on the Maltese energy market
The share of renewable energies in total energy consumption in Malta is 10.71%. Of this, 45.4% can be generated from solar energy, 26.2% from biofuels and 25.8% from heat pumps. The aim is to achieve a share of 11.5% by 2030, which is more than realistically achievable given the current growth rate of renewable energies in Malta. The potential in Malta is particularly high in the area of solar energy generation.
Increasing energy efficiency in buildings also plays a very important role in Malta. In order to optimize this, the Maltese government offers subsidies to improve building performance, particularly in new buildings and renovations of both private and public buildings. In total, subsidies amounting to 608 million euros are to be made available this year for energy and food subsidies.
Against this backdrop, there are very good business opportunities for German technology and service providers in the areas of renewable energy generation, particularly in the solar sector, as well as energy-efficient solutions for improving building performance.
